Suffolk County police are searching for a suspect — or suspects — who threw a "large pumpkin" from a moving vehicle in Hauppauge Sunday, smashing the windshield of a car traveling in the opposite direction.

Police said it was "fortunate" the driver of that car was not injured.

The incident occured on Town Line Road near the intersection of MacArthur Boulevard at about 2:50 p,m., police said.

Police said the victim was traveling westbound on Town Line Road when the pumpkin was tossed from an eastbound vehicle.

Photos of the 2009 Ford Fusion damaged by the smashing pumpkin show major damage to the driver's side windshield. Police did not place a valuation on the damage.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the crime to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. Any information leading to an arrest in the case is eligible for a cash reward.

In addition to calling, tipsters can submit tips using a mobile app downloaded through the App Store or Google Play by searching P3 Tips or can go online to submit tips at www.P3Tips.com.

All calls, texts and emails will remain confidential, police said.
