A Deer Park man has been arrested for raping a 16-year-old girl last year, Suffolk County police said Wednesday.
Philip Evanson, who was arrested on Adams Street in Deer Park on Tuesday, was arraigned Wednesday on a charge of third-degree rape and held on bail of $75,000 bond or $35,000 cash, authorities said. A temporary order of protection was issued against him.
Police did not provide further details Wednesday, but in a May 23 news release, police had asked for the public's help to find Evanson, saying he was "believed to be employed as a solar panel installer" and known to frequent Deer Park and Bay Shore. Police said he was 28 years old at the time.
Evanson pleaded not guilty to the charge, said attorney Pierre Bazile of Huntington. "He maintains his innocence," the attorney said. "We're confident he'll be exonerated once the case is fully adjudicated."
Bazile confirmed his client is a solar panel installer but declined to answer other questions.
