Police are investigating a shots-fired incident after a man reported his Cadillac had been raked by gunfire early Friday morning in an apartment complex parking lot in Riverhead.

The incident at the complex on Doctors Path was reported in a 911 call at 3:24 a.m., Riverhead Town police said.

Police said responding officers found a man, 31, near his parked 2007 Cadillac, which had been damaged by gunfire.

Officers found “numerous expended shell casings” in the area after a search. Police said the incident “does not appear to be the result of a random act” and it is possibly related to an earlier reported incident — though police declined to detail that prior incident, citing the investigation.

Police asked anyone with information about the incidents to call them at 631-727-4500, ext. 332.
