Riverhead Town police said Thursday that they are looking for a man who threatened to use his gun when he stole $200 in scratch-off lottery tickets from a Mobil gas station.
The suspect took the tickets from the station at 1575 Old Country Rd. at about 5:54 a.m. Tuesday, police said.
Police responded to a 911 call and the clerk at the station said that the suspect “forcibly removed” about $200 worth of New York State lottery tickets.
“During the course of the robbery, the suspect threatened the use of a gun, however, none was displayed,” police said in a news release.
The suspect then left in dark-colored minivan that was later determined to have been reported stolen from the Flanders area, police said.
The van was later found abandoned in Flanders.
Police also released a photograph of the suspect taken from video surveillance at the gas station.
Anyone with information can call the Detective Division at 631-727-4500, ext. 332.
