A robber who punched a cashier at a 7-Eleven in Coram was arrested Friday on a robbery charge and a parole warrant, Suffolk police said.
Paul Mauro, 31, of Rocky Point, was being held overnight for arraignment Saturday on second-degree robbery charge.
Police said he was pretending to buy items at the 7-Eleven, 1671 Route 112, at about 1:20 a.m. on Feb. 26, and as the cashier rang up the sale, Mauro punched the clerk in the face.
Knocked to the ground, the clerk hit his head on shelving and the floor when he fell and lost consciousness, police said.
The robber then hopped over the counter and stole cash from the drawers and other items, police said in a news release.
State court records show Mauro was on parole for third-degree robbery.
