Nassau police said they were investigating a stabbing in a Rockville Centre park Tuesday, a day after another stabbing left three teens injured less than two miles away in Hempstead Lake State Park.

A police spokesman said officials sent an ambulance to a basketball court in Rev. Morgan Days Park about 6:30 p.m. after a report of stabbings there.

Rockville Centre police said they were investigating but could not comment on the case and Nassau police said they were on the scene at least until 11 p.m.

News reports said one person was seriously injured in Tuesday’s attack and that two others received non-life-threatening injuries.

It was unclear whether the two stabbing incidents occurring a day apart were related.

Monday, three teens on a trail in Hempstead Lake State Park were attacked by another group not far from Hempstead High School, officials said.

State Park Police continued Tuesday with their investigation at Hempstead Lake, a spokesman said. The spokesman said increased patrols were planned. Two of the three teens stabbed Monday were released from the hospital and the third was in stable condition.

No arrests have been made in Monday’s stabbings.

Hempstead schools also said Tuesday they were beefing up security on their campuses as a result of the stabbings. Grief counselors also were being made available to students concerned over the incident.
