A New Cassel man faces a hate-crime charge after he attacked and shouted slurs at a Hispanic man in Ronkonkoma, Suffolk County police said.

Sean Oree, 52, of Magnolia Avenue, approached the victim, who was sitting on a bench at the Long Island Rail Road station in Ronkonkoma, at about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

Oree yelled racial slurs and punched and kicked the victim, police said.

The victim was treated at a hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.

Oree was arrested at the scene and was awaiting arraignment Thursday in First District Court in Central Islip on a charge of assault in the third degree as a hate crime, police said.
