A Greenlawn man was arrested Friday night in East Meadow after Nassau County police said he broke into a home there.

Police received a call at about 5:40 p.m. from a 43-year-old man who said he had arrived at the house on Francis Drive to find an open front window and hear noise inside. A short time later, First Precinct officers spotted another man in a Chevrolet Tahoe in front of the house.

The man, identified as Rony Compere, 43, of 52 Lafayette St., then fled on foot through backyards as police chased him. Officers caught Compere and placed him under arrest in the backyard of a Brisbane Lane house.

Police said Compere did not appear to have any proceeds.

Compere is charged with second-degree burglary and third-degree criminal trespass. He is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead.
