Sayville, Port Jeff Station robberies may be linked, cops say

Suffolk police are investigating whether the same suspect committed a pair of bank robberies about two hours apart Sunday in Sayville and Port Jefferson Station.

No injuries were reported in either heist, nor were any weapons displayed, police said.

The first robbery occurred about 11:45 a.m. at the TD Bank on Main Street in Sayville, police said. A man entered the bank and handed a teller a note demanding cash. The teller complied and the man fled on foot.

The suspect, who had the lower half of his face covered, was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, a gray jacket, blue or gray workpants and black gloves, police said.

Nearly two hours later, at 1:31 p.m., a man entered another TD Bank about 14 miles away on Nesconset Highway in Port Jefferson Station, police said.

The suspect, who had the lower half of his face covered with a multicolored scarf, handed the teller a demand note and left with the cash in a light-colored, possibly silver, car, police said.

The suspect was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, tan pants and black gloves, police said.

Detectives are asking anyone with information in either robbery to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
