Suffolk police are investigating a Shirley car crash that killed a female bicyclist Saturday night.

Daryl Edelstein of Bellport was driving south on William Floyd Parkway when his vehicle hit the bicyclist, who appeared to have been crossing the parkway headed west, police said.

Edelstein was not injured in the accident, which occurred at about 10:20 p.m. near the intersection with Flintlock Drive, police said. The bicyclist, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Edelstein's vehicle, a 2011 Jeep Wrangler, was impounded for a safety check, police said.

Detectives ask that anyone with information call the seventh squad at 631-852-8752 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. Calls will be kept confidential, police said.
