Cops: Shirley man impaired by drugs in crash that critically injured passenger

A Shirley man was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs Sunday after a crash that left his passenger critically injured, Suffolk County police said.
Dayvonte Booker, 21, was driving a 2007 Acura southbound at 2:40 p.m. on River Road in Shirley when he struck a tree, police said in a news release.
Kaneya Giles, 18, of Mastic Beach, who was a passenger in the car, suffered injuries and was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition, police said.
Booker was not injured, police said. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check, and Booker will be held overnight at the Seventh Precinct. An arraignment is scheduled for Monday in First District Court in Central Islip, police said.
