A Shirley man was arrested on weapons charges after he was stopped while doing 76 mph in a 55-mph zone, police said.

During the traffic stop at 4:40 p.m. Sunday on the westbound Southern State Parkway west of Exit 39 in North Babylon, State Police said, a trooper found Fitzroy Johnson, 27, in possession of loaded Glock semi-automatic pistol — and arrested him on gun charges.

Johnson was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Arraignment details were not immediately available.

Police said Johnson was speeding in his 2016 Toyota Camry when he was spotted by the trooper from the Brentwood Barracks.
