A Shirley man was arrested on Staten Island after posing as a police officer during a traffic stop, State Police said Thursday.
Joseph Desire, 50, was stopped Wednesday for driving an unregistered vehicle with no inspection certificate, police said.
Desire was asked to produce identification and he handed over police identification.
Upon examination “it was determined that the Police ID was fictitious,” police said in a news release.
Desire was arrested and charged with criminal impersonation, a felony, State Police said.
Arraignment information was not immediately available.
