A photo of the car that a hit-and-run driver struck a 14-year-old girl on a bike with Sunday in Shirley was released Thursday morning by the Suffolk County Police Department.

The girl was riding south on Flintock Drive at Maple Lane when the driver of the white four-door sedan going west "stopped at the intersection and then accelerated, striking and knocking the teenager to the ground" about 7:45 p.m.

The girl was brought by ambulance to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The photo, sent as part of a Crime Stoppers poster, appears to have come from a surveillance camera.
