Police are investigating a shooting that wounded a 21-year-old man on Sunday afternoon in North Bay Shore.
Suffolk County police said investigators believe the shooting was targeted, but did not detail a potential motive.
According to police, the 21-year-old was in a vehicle with three others near the intersection of Stein Drive and Belgrave Avenue when "multiple people" exited another vehicle and fired shots into their car at about 3:30 p.m., striking the victim. Police did not detail how many rounds were believed to have been fired.
The driver flagged down a patrol officer on Fifth Avenue in North Bay Shore — and police said the 21-year-old was transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The shooting is being investigated by Third Precinct detectives, who are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS or the Third Squad at 631-854-8352. All calls will remain confidential.
