Man fatally shot outside Brentwood hookah lounge, cops say

A 40-year-old Brentwood man was fatally shot outside a hookah lounge early Monday, Suffolk police said.
Jose A. Hernandez was shot during a fight outside the La Hookita De Alberto Hookah Lounge on Suffolk Avenue in Brentwood at 3:45 a.m. Hernandez was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore and was pronounced dead, police said.
No information about the shooter was immediately available.
Detectives ask anyone with information regarding the shooting to call the department’s Homicide squad at 631-852-6392 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
Several shootings have occurred within three miles of one another in the Central Islip/Brentwood area in the last three months.
On March 5, two people were stabbed and shots were fired on Clift Street following an altercation, police said at the time. The victims were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
On Feb. 2, a "gang house" on St. Johns Street, between Woodlawn and Rossmore avenues was shot up, Suffolk police commissioner Rodney Harrison said at the time. Two bullets hit the man who was taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
No arrests have been made.
