Suffolk police investigate the scene of a shooting in North Amityville where a man was hit in the chest by a gunshot. Credit: Paul Mazza

A man was critically injured after being shot in the chest Tuesday night in North Amityville, Suffolk police said.

Around 11:15 p.m., a 38-year-old man was sitting in a parked vehicle on Walnut Road when he was struck in the chest by a gunshot. The man, who was not identified by police, was taken to a hospital in critical condition, police said.

No further information was available.

Police ask anyone with information about the shooting to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
