A Central Islip man has been arrested in the shooting of a resident sitting in a car outside the victim's home late Saturday, authorities said in a news release on Tuesday.

Jeremias Anariba-Moran, 47, was charged with second-degree murder in the slaying of Gustavo Godinez-Carcamo, 40, also of Central Islip.

Anariba-Moran pleaded not guilty Wednesday during his arraignment in First District Court in Central Islip. His court-assigned defense attorney declined to comment.

District Court Judge Eric Sachs ordered Anariba-Moran remanded to the Suffolk County jail without bail.

According to authorities, Godinez-Carcamo was sitting with Anariba-Moran in his vehicle, parked in the driveway outside Godinez-Carcamo's Anne Lane home, when the defendant fatally shot him and then fled on foot.

Kevin Beyrer, the commanding officer of the Suffolk County Police Department’s Homicide Bureau, told reporters on Sunday that the victim was "shot for unknown reasons."

Godinez-Carcamo was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore after the shooting, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
