Smithtown crash leads to DWI charge
An East Setauket man who lost control of his car Friday and drove into a tree-lined shoulder of the Sunken Meadow Parkway in Smithtown was arrested on a drunken-driving charge, State Police said.
Melvin T. Harris, 27, was driving a 2005 Nissan Altima at about 2:30 a.m. when he apparently left the parkway northbound near Jericho Turnpike, police said.
When troopers arrived, they found Harris to be intoxicated and arrested him, police said. He was taken to the Farmingdale headquarters, where he provided a breath-analyzer sample of .12 percent, police said.
Harris is charged with DWI and several traffic violations, police said. His arraignment information was not immediately available.
