A Syosset man was arrested Wednesday after he fatally stabbed his mother and wounded his father, Nassau County police said.

Ian Kazer, 29, of Syosset Circle faces second-degree murder and second-degree attempted murder charges.  He was arraigned and held without bail Friday afternoon at Nassau University Medical Center — where he has been since his arrest — before Nassau District Court Judge Paul Meli.

Kazer's next court appearance is March 26. His Legal Aid Society attorney, Madeline Rasmussen, declined to comment at the hospital.

Nassau police responded to a call about a domestic disturbance at the Syosset Circle home, where Kazer lived with his parents,  shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday. The responding officers found Kazer’s mother, Frances Kazer, 66, had been stabbed numerous times in the neck and chest, according to police. She was pronounced dead about an hour later at a hospital.

Kazer’s father, Howard Kazer, 69, also had been stabbed in the torso, police said. He was in stable condition at a hospital.

Police said Kazer had argued with his parents because he had been fired from a nearby Target store.

Kazer’s brother Evan, 33, told News 12 Long Island he was shocked by the attack. He said the family occasionally had disagreements “but nothing that would have indicated this.”

Neighbors remembered Frances Kazer as an especially warm and friendly presence in the neighborhood. They said they were not aware of any problems at the home.

“It is just unbelievable,” said neighbor Helen Ras. “This is a very quiet street, a very nice street. I am just surprised, I really am.”
