A motorist was charged with driving while intoxicated after a three-car crash in Flanders that sent five people to the hospital, police said.

Southampton Town police received a 911 call at 7:44 p.m. on Saturday about a crash on County Road 104 just south of County Road 105.

Southampton and Suffolk police as well as several local fire departments and ambulances responded and found multiple people injured in the collision, authorities said. One of the injured was transported by medevac helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital, and four more were taken by ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center, according to the authorities.

Erik Yatvelasquez, 22, of Riverhead, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, police said.

Both lanes of CR 104 were closed for about four hours after the crash, police said.

No further information was immediately available.
