SPCA charges Centereach man with starving dog
A Centereach man was arrested Monday and charged with nearly starving a dog to death, the Suffolk County SPCA said.
SPCA chief Roy Gross said the animal was “literally skin and bones” and could not walk when SCPA agents rescued it.
The suspect, whose name was not released, withheld food and water until the dog lost an extreme amount of weight and muscle mass, the SPCA said in a news release. He was arrested on animal cruelty charges.
“This is one of the worst cases of neglect that I have seen,” Gross said. The dog, who is part Doberman pinscher, was hospitalized and will be put up for adoption.
