SPCA: North Massapequa dad, son accused of neglecting dogs

A father and son from North Massapequa found to have two emaciated dogs have been charged with misdemeanors, officials said Tuesday.

Thomas Skuza, 62, and Thomas Skuza Jr., 30, were charged with failure to provide proper sustenance after the Nassau County SPCA saw the dogs at their home last Thursday, officials said.

The dogs, named Damian and Romeo, were emaciated and had ribs, spine and hips showing, and were dehydrated, according to SPCA spokesman Gary Rogers.

SPCA detectives went to the home on North Queens Avenue in response to a complaint, Rogers said.

The father was arrested at the scene, Rogers said, and online court records show he has since been released on bail.

The son surrendered Monday and will be arraigned Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead, Rogers said.

Neither man could be reached for comment Tuesday.

Rogers said the dogs have been admitted to an animal hospital and will need extensive veterinary care.
