Suffolk police arrested a Ronkonkoma jogger and charged him with assault after they say he stabbed a motorist 11 times in a confrontation Thursday night on Middle Country Road in Centereach.
In a release, police said Matthew Ulloa, 18, and the 49-year-old motorist first had a run-in around 8 p.m. outside a Shell Gas station at 1992 Middle Country Rd., when Ulloa, jogging past, yelled something at the motorist as he was pulling in to get gas.
Ulloa kept jogging, while the motorist pumped his gas, then drove west, the same direction Ulloa was heading. Their second encounter occurred more than half a mile west of the gas station, in front of the Long Island Paneling, Ceilings and Floors store at 2410 Middle Country Rd.
According to police, the motorist drove near Ulloa, parked and got out of his vehicle to confront him. Ulloa stabbed him repeatedly, police said, and the man was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries.
Ulloa was arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Friday. He was released without cash bail and a temporary order of protection was issued, according to online court records. Ulloa's next court date is Sept. 21 His attorney, Phillip John Jusino of Smithtown, could not be reached for comment on Friday.
