Detectives from the Suffolk County Police Department’s Third Squad are investigating a stabbing that occurred Monday in Central Islip.
About 8:20 a.m., a man was stabbed on Clift Street, a Suffolk police spokesperson told Newsday via email. The victim, who police did not immediately identify, sustained injuries not considered life threatening and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Suffolk police were seen later Monday morning searching a garbage bin in a 7-Eleven parking lot near Clift Street and Carlton Avenue. A Newsday photo shows police appearing to retrieve a cellphone from the bin.
A police spokesperson could not immediately confirm if Suffolk police retrieved the cellphone from the bin as part of the department’s investigation into the Monday morning stabbing. The spokesperson would not discuss whether detectives have a suspect or suspects in connection with the stabbing.
