Man stabbed to death in Bay Shore street fight, Suffolk police say

A 24-year-old man was stabbed to death during a street fight overnight in Bay Shore, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

Officers responding to a report made about 12:05 a.m. Friday of a stabbing at Walbridge Avenue found Anthony Gilbert of Bay Shore, the department wrote in a news release. He was declared dead at the scene.

In response to questions, the police press office wrote in an email that the motive and nature of the dispute were under investigation, and no one had been arrested. The email said the office declined to say how the police knew there was a fight in the street or where the victim was found.
