Homicide Squad detectives have arrested a 23-year-old home health care aide from Queens and charged her with attempted murder in the stabbing of an 84-year-old Massapequa woman in her care, Nassau County police confirmed Thursday.
Police said Amanda A. Fraser, of South Richmond Hills, is charged with second-degree attempted murder — and said she faces arraignment in First District Court "when medically practical."
The elderly victim, whose identity has not been released by police, was found in her home on Bay Drive with a puncture wound in her chest, police said.
Police responded to the home Wednesday after a wellness check was made to 911. They found the victim gravely injured, police said.
The victim was transported to a hospital and was listed in "serious critical condition," police said.
According to the New York Home Health Aide registry, Fraser completed a training program and received certification in November 2020.
Gloria Kraft, who identified herself as an administrator at Aides at Home Inc. in Hicksville, acknowledged that Fraser was working for the company but declined to elaborate, telling Newsday on Friday: “We don’t have any comment at this time. Aides at Home is fully cooperating with investigators at this time.”
Records show Aides at Home is one of three agencies who had employed Fraser at various times for various clients. The others were Caring Professionals Inc. in Forest Hills, whose spokesman, Julian Hagmann, said the company had last employed Fraser in August and terminated her employment on Thursday, the other being Brooklyn Boulevard ALP LHCSA, a Brooklyn agency that could not immediately be reached for comment.
Citing the ongoing investigation, Kraft declined to answer if Fraser had been terminated by the agency.
Detectives request anyone with additional information to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS or call 911.
