Driver flees Stony Brook crash, injured passenger, cops say

A driver and passenger fled the scene after the pickup truck they were riding in flipped over in Stony Brook on Friday night, leaving another injured passenger behind, Suffolk County police said.
The second passenger was found by police who responded to the scene after the crash on North Country Road about 7:35 p.m., police said. That passenger was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with minor injuries, police said.
The driver had failed to navigate a turn while traveling westbound near Beacon Hill Drive and Whitford Road when the vehicle went into the woods and landed on its side, police said.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check, police said. The investigation is ongoing.
