Kings Park man charged in 14 burglaries of businesses, Suffolk County police say

A Kings Park man faces multiple charges after his arrest in connection with 14 burglaries of Suffolk businesses since May — the most recent being last week in Bay Shore, police said.
Robert Porter, 55, was taken into custody early Tuesday as he sat in an abandoned vehicle on First Avenue in Bay Shore. He was allegedly in possession of cocaine, according to Suffolk County police.
Porter was charged with 14 counts of third-degree burglary and one count of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, Suffolk police said in a news release.
He was arraigned Wednesday and held on $10,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.
Porter's defense attorney, Ian Fitzgerald of Hamptons Bay, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Police said Porter made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, liquor, cigarettes, vaping products and lottery tickets during the burglaries.
The burglaries Porter is accused of committing are:
- May 23: The Hero Joint, 182 W. Main St., Bay Shore
- May 25: Tequila Sunrise Wine and Liquor, 1752 Sunrise Hwy., Bay Shore
- June 19 and 26: DMS Smoke Shop, 190 Islip Ave., Islip
- June 29: USA Gas, 225 Higbie Lane, West Islip
- June 29: Parkway Express Gas, 1490 Brentwood Rd., Bay Shore
- July 18: Shell, 4576 Sunrise Hwy., Oakdale
- July 21: D & B Beer & Smoke, 4509 Sunrise Hwy. North Service Road, Bohemia
- July 22: Lindenhurst Smoke Shop, 50 W. Montauk Hwy., Lindenhurst
- July 25: Shell, 4576 Sunrise Hwy., Oakdale
- July 26: D & B Beer & Smoke, 4509 Sunrise Hwy. North Service Road, Bohemia
- July 31: Hershey’s Ice Cream Shop, 470 Union Blvd., West Islip
- July 31: Bang Bang Burritos, 464 Union Blvd., West Islip
- Aug. 2: Le Belle Nail & Spa, 1201 Sunrise Hwy. North Service Road, Bay Shore
Porter is due back in court on Friday.
