A stabbing victim tried to drive himself to the hospital Friday night before his vehicle ran out of gas in front of a 7-Eleven in Lindenhurst, prompting a local fire company to transport him the rest of the way, Suffolk County police said.

The man had been stabbed at a fight that had broken out between a group of people in front of a Wyandanch home on Mount Avenue about 9:40 p.m., a police spokeswoman said.

The North Lindenhurst Fire Department responded to the convenience store on North Greene Avenue and took the victim to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, the spokeswoman said.

Police said the group of people involved in the argument knew each other.

First squad detectives are investigating the incident. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call anonymously to Suffolk Crime Stoppers at 1-800-200-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
