The driver of a sport utility vehicle Tuesday crossed over the lawn of a Patchogue church, hit a utility pole and then crashed into a building before running off, abandoning the vehicle, Suffolk County police said.

No one was injured in the crash at South Ocean Avenue and Church Street just before 5 p.m., police said.

Before being stopped by the building, a 2006 Ford Expedition went across the lawn of the United Methodist Church of Patchogue, at 10 Church St., then struck a utility pole, a police spokeswoman said.

The driver then fled the scene.
