Authorities are investigating an attempted robbery Wednesday afternoon at a TD Bank branch in Wantagh, Nassau police said.

Robbery Squad detectives said a man wearing a ski mask entered the branch at 3222 Sunrise Highway at 2:15 p.m. He was carrying a bag which held a long-bladed knife, police said.

When a bank manager approached the man, he dropped the bag and fled, getting into a white Ford Explorer, which had its license plates covered, police said. The sport utility vehicle was last seen headed south on Wantagh Avenue, police said.

Seven bank employees were in the branch at the time, but no customers were present, police said. No injuries were reported.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
