Nassau County police arrested a Wyandanch man Tuesday and charged him with robbing a Wantagh bank and trying to rob another bank in New Cassel.

Police said Joseph Mann, 49, first walked into a TD Bank at 999 Old Country Road in New Cassel just before 11 a.m. Tuesday and handed a teller a note demanding money. The teller refused and police said Mann ran away while police were called. Police said there were four employes and no customers inside.

Police said Mann then went into another TD Bank at 1200 Wantagh Avenue in Wantagh, where he jumped the counter past three employees and stole cash before running away.

Police arrested Mann about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday on Rockway Boulevard in Queens. Police said he was also found with what was believed to be rock cocaine.

Mann was charged with two counts of robbery and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

An arraignment has not been set.
