Suffolk County police charged a 15-year-old boy with attempted murder in a June shooting that injured two people at a Central Islip apartment complex.

Police arrested the teen on Thursday after, authorities said, he pulled a gun and fired during a fight with two people June 19 around 4:30 p.m. at the Hawthorne Living apartment complex on Hawthorne Avenue.

Police said the fight started between two people near the apartment complex pool. A 16-year-old boy and a 25-year-old woman standing nearby were both shot and taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, where they were treated for serious injuries, police said.

A group of teens had fled the area before police arrived.

The 15-year-old was charged on Thursday with attempted murder, assault, reckless endangerment and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. Because of his age, police did not identify him.

The teen's attorney, Pierre Bazile, based in Huntington, said his client is not yet being tried as a youthful offender, but will remain under a judge who specializes in juvenile cases.

"He really has no significant criminal history," Bazile said. "We continue to maintain his innocence and look forward to the judicial process."

The teen was scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday in First District Court in Central Islip.
