Teen, baby reported missing in Hempstead
Police are searching for a teen mother who ran away from a Hempstead housing project with her infant daughter on Friday afternoon, Nassau County authorities said.
The 15-year-old from Roosevelt was with the 6-month-old infant, at 100 Terrace Ave., the housing project where the infant's grandmother lives and with whom the infant often stays, a Nassau police spokeswoman said.
The county's Department of Social Services has legal custody of the infant, and it's unclear whether anyone from the agency was at the apartment when the teen and infant were reported missing, the spokeswoman said.
No one from the social services agency could be immediately reached for comment Saturday night.
