Teen confronts robbery suspect, who fires shot, police say
Suffolk police detectives are investigating a robbery in North Lindenhurst Sunday night in which a teenager confronted the suspect before a gunshot was fired, police said.
A 17-year-old resident of a North Jefferson Avenue home saw a man exiting his house with a metal lock box about 7:35 p.m. and confronted him, police said. A struggle ensued and the gun-wielding suspect fired one shot into the ground.
After the teen backed away, the suspect - described as a male about 6 feet tall with a stocky build - fled north on Jefferson Avenue toward Sunrise Highway, police said.
An undetermined amount of cash stolen from the box was recovered on Jefferson Avenue.
