Teenager shot on Lynbrook LIRR platform; shooter sought, police say

A teenager was shot at the Lynbrook LIRR station Saturday evening, and the shooter is being sought, according to MTA police.

MTA and Lynbrook village police responded to several 911 calls just before 8 p.m. Saturday. They found two shell casings from a 9 mm weapon but "neither victim nor perpetrators present on scene," according to a news release from the MTA police.

Photos from the scene showed bullet casings and blood on the platform.

About 45 minutes later, a 17-year-old male walked into the Long Island Jewish Valley Stream hospital with a gunshot wound to the shoulder, police said. The MTA said his condition was not life-threatening.

Detectives from the MTA spoke with the victim at the hospital and confirmed that he had been shot at the train station.

"Further investigation at the station revealed a single perpetrator appeared to target the lone victim, and it is believed there is no ongoing public threat," the MTA said in the report.

Police were searching for the shooter and said an investigation was ongoing.
