Cops: Gang tip in Hempstead leads to teen’s gun-charge arrest
A tip about a gathering of “gang members” on a street in Hempstead led to the arrest of four people Thursday night, one a teen charged with possessing a handgun, police said.
Ligory Horisman, 16, of Montgomery Street in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, was charged with disorderly conduct and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon after he was found with a loaded 9-mm handgun, Nassau County police said.
The other three arrested were identified only as two 17-year-old males and a 21-year-old man. All were issued summonses for disorderly conduct and given field appearance tickets for a later date.
Police said Nassau Gang Investigations Squad detectives, as well as Hempstead Village police, received “information about a rap video to be performed by gang members” and found a few dozen people gathered in the street in the vicinity of Bennett Avenue and Amherst Street at about 9:15 p.m. No other details were immediately available.
Police said Horisman was arrested after obstructing traffic.
Horisman faces arraignment Friday in First District Court in Hempstead. It was unclear if he is represented by counsel.
