A teenager was arrested and charged after he allegedly shot and seriously wounded a Queens man Saturday night at a Bay Shore baby shower, Suffolk police said.

After a fight broke out between two teenage girls at the shower on Pine Acres Boulevard, the victim, Vincent Peredaviz, 41, attempted to separate them, police said. The suspect, 16, "fired a handgun" and struck Peredaviz in the leg.

Peredaviz, of Astoria, Queens, was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of serious injuries, according to police. A 30-year-old man who witnessed the shooting wrestled the teenager to the ground and held him until Third Precinct officers arrived, police said.

The teen, who police did not publicly identify, was charged with second-degree assault and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was held overnight at the Third Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned Sunday in Youth Part at First District Court in Central Islip.
