Two men, one armed with a knife, accosted a woman in a Terryville residence Monday afternoon and ran off with a safe, Suffolk police said.

The armed suspect held off the woman, who answered the door about 2:50 p.m. on Ontario Street, while the other man ran upstairs to steal a safe, police said.

The home invasion was not a random crime, police said, adding that no one was injured.

Aviation and canine units searched for the suspects, and Sixth Precinct detectives remained at the scene as evening neared, police said.

Other details were not immediately available during the ongoing investigation.

But detectives said they have a good lead, said Sixth Precinct Insp. William Murphy: “We anticipate making an arrest.”

Police ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
