Nassau County police said they found more than 100 “small packages” of heroin during a traffic stop in Bethpage Wednesday.
According to police, two officers stopped a 2001 Nissan Altima on Collector Lane about 10:05 p.m. when they saw one of the passengers, Steven Scheufler, 34, of Flushing, trying to hide “numerous glassine envelopes containing heroin into his pants.”
The officers searched the vehicle and found the packages of heroin as well as six pills of zolpidem — commonly known as Ambien.
Mandy Kougianos, 28, the driver of the vehicle, and her brother Nikolas Kougianos, 25, both of Cheshire Road in Bethpage, were arrested along with Scheufler, police said.
Scheufler is being charged with one count of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and four counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said.
The Kougianos siblings are both being charged with three counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said.
All three are scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead Thursday, police said.
