Two New York City men were charged with grand larceny and were arraigned Monday after, police said, they were caught taking valuables from a car in Franklin Square.

Nassau police said John Markou, 18 of Richmond Hill, Queens, Tyrese Chestnut, 18, of Bronx, and a third person were attempting to open car doors on Bly Court in Franklin Square on Sunday morning. The men took a credit card and personal papers from a 21-year-old woman’s car, police said.

The woman called police. When officers arrived, they arrested Markou and Chestnut at the corner of Oaks and Center drives. The third person was not arrested.

Police said they found keys to a 2007 Hyundai near Markou. The Hyundai had been stolen from someone in Elmont, police said.

Markou is charged with criminal possession of stolen property. He and Chestnut are also charged with fourth degree grand larceny.
