Two men charged with Suffolk bank robberies, cops say

Suffolk County police have arrested two men who they said were responsible for several bank robberies, officials said on Thursday.

Michael Hantzidiamantis of Kew Gardens, Queens, and Corey Suozzo, 25, were caught by detectives using fingerprint technology after they left their prints on glass at teller windows, officials said.

With those two arrests, major case detectives have cleared 21 of 23 bank robberies in 2017, said Suffolk County Police Commissioner Timothy Sini.

Police said Hantzidiamantis, a worker for JetBlue, committed the first robbery on Aug. 24, when he entered a Capitol One bank on Sunrise Service Road in Bohemia and displayed a note demanding cash, Sini said. He made off with several hundreds of dollars before he fled, Sini said.

Months later, Hantzidiamantis struck again, this time at a People’s United Bank on Middle Country Road in Centereach on Sept. 8, officials said. He used a note to demand cash and once again, made off with several hundreds of dollars.

Detectives from the major case squad used the fingerprints to identify Hantzidiamantis and then alerted Port Authority police. When Hantzidiamantis reported to work at John F. Kennedy Airport on Wednesday, authorities placed him under arrest, Sini said.

Hantzidiamantis was charged with two counts of robbery in the third degree and was expected to be arraigned in court on Thursday, officials said. Online arraignment information was not available Thursday evening.

The other man arrested, Suozzo, first attempted to rob an Astoria bank in West Islip before he successfully knocked off a Capitol One bank in Babylon on Wednesday, officials said. Suozzo allegedly entered the first bank at about 9:10 a.m. and used a note to demand cash but the bank teller refused to give him money, officials said.

Twenty minutes later, Suozzo was at the other bank on the corner of Little East Neck Road and Montauk Highway where he handed the teller a similar note and demanded cash, Sini said. There he made off with several hundred dollars and fled, officials said.

He was arrested later that day after fingerprint analysis indicated it was him, officials said.

Suozzo is slated to be arraigned on Friday, officials said.

Attorney information was not available for either man.
