Two teens had gun in vehicle during traffic stop, police say
Rockville Centre police arrested two teens in Garden City on Wednesday night after officers said they found a gun during a traffic stop.
The officers stopped a car for a traffic law violation at Merrick Road and Ocean Avenue about 10:15 p.m., Nassau County police said. During their investigation, the Rockville Centre officers discovered driver Kahmani Headley, 16, of W. Mineola Avenue, Valley Stream, and passenger Dandre Dogostiano, 17, of S. Forest Avenue, Rockville Centre, had a loaded handgun in the vehicle.
Both Dogostiano and Headley were placed under arrest at the scene, police said. They have been charged with 2nd degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony. Headley was also charged with driving without a license and failing to obey a traffic device.
The teens were both arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead. According to court records, a judge set bail for Headley at $35,000 bond, $20,000 cash, which he did not post. Dogostiano also did not post bail, which was set at $35,000 bond, $20,000 cash.
Neither teen appeared to have an attorney. Dogostiano and Headley are due back in court on Sept. 12.
