Tyler Phillips, the 13-year-old Medford boy who was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Coram Wednesday, has died from his injuries, according to Suffolk County police.

Phillips had been walking west with his sister, Krystal Randolph, in the bike lane on Granny Road near Middle Island Road when a vehicle being driven in the same direction crashed into both teens about 7:25 p.m. Wednesday, police said at the time.

He was pronounced dead at Stony Brook University Hospital on Saturday.

Immediately following the crash, the motorist drove off on Granny Road, headed west, police said.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing and the vehicle involved is believed to be a light gray 2005-2009 Chevrolet Equinox, police said. Investigators have asked anyone with information on the crash to contact Major Case Unit detectives at 631-852-6555 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.

Krystal, also 13 of Route 112 in Medford, sustained non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Reached by telephone Saturday, the mother of the teens declined to comment.

The siblings attended eighth grade together at William Paca Middle School in the William Floyd school district, where administrators offered sympathies in a note to the community Thursday. They reissued the statement Saturday after Tyler's passing was confirmed.

"While we are thankful that Krystal is expected to survive, we are heartbroken to learn of Tyler’s passing," administrators wrote in the email.

The district said it was making grief counselors available for students at the middle school. The teens also have a younger sibling attending Tangier Smith Elementary School in the district.

The Longwood Central School District, where Tyler and Krystal previously attended West Middle Island Elementary School, also sent a note of condolence.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Tyler and Krystal’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time,” the Longwood statement said.
