A gunman robbed a gas station in Valley Stream on Sunday night, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

The robbery was at 9:06 p.m. at the BP gas station on North Central Avenue.

The "subject approached the clerk with a handgun, went behind the counter and demanded money. The clerk complied and the subject left the scene southbound on foot," the department said in a news release.

The robber remains at large. The release did not say how much cash was stolen.

Commercial robberies in Nassau County were up nearly 50% for the first quarter of 2022 compared to the same period last year, according to department statistics of crime reports. There were 30 in the first three months of 2021 compared to 44 this year.
