A Copiague man was arrested in Valley Stream after he was found parked illegally and with a handgun in his car, Nassau County police said.

Police said officers saw a 2003 Lincoln parked more than 12 inches from the curb at Garfield and Ocean avenues about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday and approached the car.

The man in the driver’s seat, Damion Edwards, 37, of 41st Street in Copiague, was drinking alcohol from a bottle, and a handgun was seen between him the center console, police said.

Edwards was arrested without incident and was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle and parking more than 12 inches from the curb, police said.

He was awaiting arraignment in First District Court in Hempstead, police said.
