A knife-wielding robber made off with cash and cigarettes Sunday from a Valley Stream gas station, Nassau County police said.
A department spokeswoman said early Monday that police could not immediately say whether the robbery is linked to several similar robberies in parts of Valley Stream, North Woodmere, Franklin Square and Elmont since February.
Newsday reported in July that police were looking for one man who used a knife to rob more than a half-dozen businesses starting Feb. 9.
In Sunday night’s robbery, detectives said the suspect showed a large knife to the counter clerk at the Valero station at 192 E. Sunrise Hwy. about 8:20 p.m.
He demanded that the clerk open the store register; the clerk complied, and the suspect took an unspecified amount of cash and several “boxes of Newport cigarettes,” according to a news release.
The clerk was not injured, and police said the suspect was last seen heading east on Sunrise Highway and then south on Bismark Avenue.
The suspect is described as 5 feet, 8 inches to 5 feet, 10 inches tall with a thin build. He was wearing a black jacket over a blue hooded sweatshirt, black gloves and a scarf around his face, police said.
Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477.
