Nassau Police have identified the man shot and killed early Saturday morning at a Baldwin club as Daquan Gaskin, 22, of Baltimore.

First Precinct officers responded to the Love Jones Cafe, 1920 Grand Ave., at about 3:41 a.m. on Saturday after receiving calls about a "disturbance" in front of the club.

Police found Gaskin shot in the chest, and another 39-year-old man shot in the leg. Both were taken to hospitals. Gaskin was pronounced dead at 4:17 a.m. by hospital staff, while the 39-year-old was treated and released, police said.

Nassau homicide detectives said Sunday they are still investigating the circumstances of the shooting.

A police spokeswoman on Saturday said the shooting was not believed to be gang-related.

Police didn't know whether the victims had been in the club before the shooting, the spokeswoman said Saturday. Neither victim was armed at the time of the shooting, and as of Sunday night there were no suspects.

An employee who answered the phone at the club declined to comment on Saturday.

Yolette Fanfan, who has owned the Grand Avenue building for 12 years, called it a good neighborhood and said club management and patrons are "respectful."
