A Wading River man has been charged after the pickup truck he was driving with his 6-year-old son in the back seat struck a utility pole in Calverton Saturday morning, Riverhead Town police said.

There were no injuries.

Michael Winters, 45, of Cotton Tail Court, was charged under Leandra’s Law with driving while impaired by drugs with a person 15 years or younger in the vehicle, police said.

The nature of the drug had not yet been determined, police said.

Police said the crash happened at 10 a.m. as Winters was driving his 2014 Dodge pickup eastbound on Route 25 and Middle Country Road near the Splish Splash water park.

The child was released to his mother, police said.
